Effective methods of organizing extracurricular mathematics activities in primary school
Abstract
This article analyses effective methods of organizing extracurricular mathematics activities aimed at developing interest in mathematics and mathematical thinking among primary school pupils. The study substantiates a methodology for the systematic use of mathematics clubs, didactic games and quizzes, mathematical olympiads and competitions, project-based and research work, and mathematics matinees. In a pedagogical experiment conducted with third-grade pupils of secondary schools in the Andijan region, control and experimental groups were compared. The results showed that the proportion of pupils with a high level of interest in mathematics in the experimental group increased from 28 to 56 percent, while the proportion with a low level decreased significantly. The author argues that the systematic nature of extracurricular work, the combination of game-based and practical tasks, and consideration of pupils’ individual characteristics are the main conditions for effectiveness.
