Features of the expression of negative semantics and public opinion dynamics in internet comments

Abstract

This article examines the semantic features of negative meanings expressed in Internet comments and analyzes the linguistic means used to convey negative evaluation. Comments collected from the YouTube platform serve as the empirical material for the research. Based on the analysis, the study highlights the lexical, semantic, and pragmatic features of linguistic units that express negative evaluation. The findings demonstrate that Internet comments reflect users' subjective viewpoints, emotional states, and personal attitudes toward social events and phenomena. Furthermore, the study argues that such comments contribute to the formation of public opinion, encourage critical reflection among audiences, and influence the interpretation of social issues in digital communication. The results of the research provide valuable insights into the mechanisms of negative semantics in online discourse and contribute to the study of evaluative language and communication in contemporary digital media
